Customizing cars can be as simple as a set of new whizzy wheels, to an under the hood invasion of the monsters from outerspace. Add a set of turbochargers, or a supercharger, and you can get nearly double the power, with the same cubic inches. The limits are the pocketbook, and the strength of the engine parts.  Some mods require a complete new engine, with stronger pistons, cranks, connecting rods, special camshafts, and fuel delivery.

The driveline may need upgrades as well to handle the increased power, and don't forget the tires. The tires must be able to deliver the power without excessive wheel spin in all kinds of weather. Tuned exhaust systems are available to not only improve the power and efficiency, but to produce the tone and sounds that you expect to hear from the tiger under the hood.
